OpenAI's GPT-3
Youth4Youth is fully committed to exposing young students to the newest technologies being used in different fields. What better way to do this than to expose young students at ESF South Island School to Open AI's GPT-3, around three years before ChatGPT took the world by storm when exposed to the general public! Students in Tech Connect learnt about the article in The Guardian that was written entirely by GPT-3 to convince humans that robots come in peace.
Students worked in small groups to brainstorm the differences between human and machine written work, as well as explore thought-provoking statements like 'Robots have a voice, but no soul' and 'Robots have no morality' while learning about examples like Microsoft's Tay chatbot. It was awesome to hear the students thoughts around whether writing education should cover skills that go beyond the ability of AI. We gave students the opportunity to explore Masterpiece Generator, InferKit and DeepStory which are text generation tools that can help finish stories by taking the provided text and generating what it presumes comes next using a neural network. This was an awesome opportunity for the students to find connections between technology and their work in English lessons!
